Memorial Day Weekend Underground Top 5 Countdown

So, it’s Memorial Day Weekend and you can’t go to Movement. You aren’t heading out of town at all actually and want to hear some serious techno. Luckily, this memorial weekend NYC isn’t such a bad place to be. If you know where to go, NYC can satisfy the thirst of even the heaviest of techno enthusiasts.

With Detroit just a few hours away by plane, many of the DJs you’d want to hear are taking advantage of the close proximity of New York City to make an appearance at one of the many venues across the city. From boat parties to club nights, here is Underground’s top 5 of best events for the unofficial kickoff to the summer season. Plan accordingly, kids, as many of these events have already gone on sale.

#5: Sundays on the Roof, Output BK – Cassy, Matthew Dekay, Bilaliwood

Summer in New York means we get to club outside. The weather is nice, the air is warm, and New Yorkers want to take the party up. By up, we mean to the Roof. Output, Brooklyn continues their Sundays on the Roof series with a Memorial Day Weekend edition featuring Cassy, IMG_2697Matthew Dekay, and Bilaliwood. There will be many rooftops open in the city but none will feature the soulful techno of Cassy. This event makes Underground’s top 5 not only because of the killer line-up but because it’s the perfect way to spend your Memorial Day weekend Sunday. Sundays on the Roof starts at 1pm so feel free to stroll in at any point during the day for what’s sure to be a perfectly chill time. #4: Members Campout 2017, Upstate NY – Various Artists to include DJ Harvey, Recondite, and Satori

If you want to get out of the city or are seeking more of a festival vibe for the holiday weekend, then Members Campout may be the right experience for you. Just as the name suggests, this is a 4 day/3 night IMG_2701camping event taking place in Upstate, NY and will feature such DJs as DJ Harvey, DJ Three, Honey Dijon, Recondite, Satori, and many more. With workshops, speakers, art installations and such activities as boating, swimming, sunset yoga, and of course camping Members Campout will be the perfect escape from the busy urban life. Concerned about the sound, Members Campout boasts that a Funktion 1 sound system will be on deck to help secure the soundtrack for the weekend. #3: Chris Liebing/Mind Against, Schimanski BK

Having Chris Liebing on the line-up of any event is a sure fire way to pack the house. Pair Liebing with Mind Against and you have without a doubt a solid night of techno. Chris Liebing has made regular IMG_2698appearances in NYC, from open to close sets at Output to a B2B set with Nicole Moudaber at EDC New York to an appearance at the first and only edition of techno festival, Timewarp here in New York. He will be solid and is a sure bet for your Memorial Day weekend. Mind Against, however, may have slipped under your radar. Make no mistake though. The Italian duo of Alessandro and Federico Fognini who make up Mind Against have certainly paved their way to critical acclaim. #2: Grayscale, Output, BK – Ben Klock, ØPhase, Function

If you know techno, then you know Ben Klock. His name has become synonymous with the genre as well as notorious techno paradise Berghain in which Klock has been a IMG_2700resident of since 2005. He is not just a DJ but producer and owner of Klockworks, a label he established in 2006. His style can be raw or minimal but Klock has an artistry that adapts to any club space or festival. When Ben Klock makes an appearance in New York, you go. With ØPhase and Function on the line-up there should be no questions asked. Just Go. You won’t regret it! #1: Pan-Pot Boat Party, Circle Line Cruises

Pan-Pot should need no introduction, as they are one of the most sought after duos in the industry. Pan-Pot is the Berlin-based duo capturing the IMG_2699attention of both house and techno fans at clubs and festivals all over the globe. You would have seem them on the line-up for Awakenings, Movement, Loveland, Sonus Festival, and Amsterdam Dance Event to just name a few. Partnering with Nervous Records promoters Benny Soto and Mike Nervous, Pan-Pot returns to New York for a special boat party sailing the famed New York Harbor perfectly fitting as the setting for Underground’s number one pick for the best event you can’t miss this Memorial Day Weekend.
