Underground LDW 2017 Top Pick – Roger Sanchez @ Ravel Rooftop

If Memorial Day is considered the official start of the summer season, then the Labor Day holiday weekend could be considered the official end. We’ll still have a few weeks of nice, warm weather here in New York but there will be true signs the city is transitioning to fall. With that being said, for many, Labor Day Weekend is the last chance to celebrate summer, and if you’re like us, there’s nothing better than a festival, rooftop, or good DJ to mark the occasion. Just like our list of top picks for the Memorial Day weekend, we’ve got another list for you of top picks for Labor Day. We considered everything. We looked at clubs and rooftops. We considered day events. Night events. With only one factor sealing the final decision. It of course all came down to the music. FullSizeRender(81)

Regardless of party or event, good music is a must and the holiday weekend will bring in some of our favorite DJs to various venues across the city. We might even throw in an option outside New York just in case you’re feeling adventurous or want to get out of the city but don’t exactly know where to go. This time around we won’t rank our choices so you can decide on your own which event(s) you’d like to attend. It is after all a long holiday weekend. Our first pick for you has one of house music’s most prolific DJs headlining at one of New York’s premier rooftops. It is none other than the S-man himself, Roger Sanchez.

FullSizeRender(83)Here at Underground, even though it may seem we far prefer techno to house music, we appreciate both genres just the same. In our opinion, you can’t have one without the other and Roger Sanchez is a house music legend with all our respect. He began his career in Queens, New York where he was introduced to DJing through friends. This Labor Day weekend, Roger Sanchez returns to Queens to play at the Ravel Rooftop. He has had quite a meteoric career with multi-year residencies in Ibiza, headlining appearances at some of the top festivals and clubs around the world, and a catalogue of music that includes over 2000 productions and remixes. His ambition, creativity, and perseverance would lead him to win a Grammy for Best Remixed Recording in 2003. He is also the man behind the highly successful Release Yourself Radio Show, which won him the award for Best Podcast at the International Dance Music Awards in 2007. It was the first time the award was given. Roger Sanchez is also the label boss of Undr the Radr and Stealth Recordings. FullSizeRender(82)

This Labor Day weekend, Roger Sanchez headlines Rewind Yourself, playing tribute to house music classics like only the S-man can. The Ravel Rooftop, located in Long Island City, offers the perfect way to close out the summer season in style. And only few venues in the city offer such close, panoramic views of Manhattan. Roger Sanchez plays open to close, so whether you get there early or decide to party late, you can hear Roger Sanchez all night long. You’ll want to check out Ravel Rooftop for specific venue information or visit Occupy Nightlife to purchase tickets already on sale. Techno more your taste? Check back here for our next top pick to celebrate your Labor Day weekend coming soon. Take a listen to Roger Sanchez in New Delhi for Boiler Room below!!!
