If anyone can bring that desert-style of house and techno, made famous at Burning Man, Bedouin is the DJ duo to do it. They are Burning Man gurus in their own right and masters of that deep, hypnotic desert sound. They are Rami Abousabe and Tamer Malki and are based right here in Brooklyn, New York. Their style draws heavily on their Middle Eastern heritage while also keeping an ear to the ever-evolving trends in music to create, as they would say, their own “idiosyncratic spell of melodies and rhythms.” We love their music, not because it’s banging techno because clearly it’s not, but because it’s truly a captivating journey of sonic art. When music transports you to another place, perhaps even another time, you know it’s something special.
Most recently, Bedouin appeared at The Roof at Output in Brooklyn for a special Friday Night Live event and literally one weekend after Burning Man. For those who attended Burning Man, it offered the perfect way to re-live the desert experience while also decompressing from a week in the dust. These boys don’t just play in the desert though. They have played all across the globe with upcoming dates at The BPM Festival in Portugal, Heart in Ibiza, All Day I Dream, Coda (Toronto), London’s Village Underground, and Flash in Washington, DC. One of our favorite sets from them comes from their appearance at Mysteryland USA in 2015. The lineup that year was quite diverse but for both techno and house enthusiasts there were plenty of acts to catch. Anja Schneider, Matador, Maya Jane Coles, Paco Osuna, Matthew Dear, Bart Skils, Ida Engberg, Paul Ritch, Nicole Moudaber, Adam Beyer, Lee Burridge, Andhim, Damian Lazarus, Guti (Live), the Martinez Brothers, Richie Hawtin, and of course the boys of Bedouin all made appearances. What happened MLUSA?? It was the last great year of the festival and now cancelled in 2017. The festival did give us this work of art from Bedouin and is one of our absolute favorite sets.
