DJ. Producer. Promoter. Record label owner. Radio host. Adrenaline junkie. Bad ass. Queen. What can we say about Nicole Moudaber that hasn’t already been said. She’s played all over the world, and we’ve seen her probably more than any other DJ. From New York to Amsterdam, from appearances at the massive Gashouder, to the intimate setting of New York’s Cielo nightclub, we’ve experienced the music of Nicole Moudaber enough times to know this woman is an icon. She has one of the most passionate followings of any DJ out there and she’s recognizable even in the dark by yes, her trademark wild hair but also by the signature sound of her techno. You could live on Mars and still know who this woman is, and if you don’t know Nicole Moudaber, quite frankly, it’s time to get in the mood.
Carl Cox called her the “most underrated DJ” in 2009 and today she is one of the most in-demand DJs in the world. She has played the massive festival stages with appearances at Glastonbury, Electric Daisy Carnival, Coachella, and Ultra Music Festival where she plays alongside some of the biggest names in the music industry. She’s even curated her own stage at these festivals called MoodZone where her friends and colleagues, the techno elite, join Moudaber for a full day’s worth of the very best in techno. She debuted MoodZone at Electric Daisy Carnival New York in 2016 and we were on scene to experience it first hand. In our opinion, it was the only stage to be, with obviously, the best music. I could go on and on about Ms. Moudaber but she really is a DJ you should experience for yourself.
More recently, we caught Nicole Moudaber playing at Piknic Electronik in Montreal closing out the holiday weekend which was nothing short of magic. It was the 15th anniversary of the festival and Nicole was there to mark the occasion as only she can. There was worry that the event would be cancelled because of heavy rain moving through Montreal that weekend but the event went on as scheduled. In fact, the heavy rain only made the event more special with an army of 7,000 strong dancing it all away in the rain. It’s hard to truly express in words the experience of this event but no one, perhaps even Mama Mood herself, wanted the event to end.
Piknic Electronik has always been a special place for us and this summer the lineup was better than ever. Every time we attend Piknic Electronik, we always ask why New York doesn’t have something like this. The festival will hold their last of events of the year this weekend with a reschedule of Misstress Barbara on Saturday followed by Josh Wink closing out Piknic on Sunday, September 24. Lucky for us, Nicole Moudaber gave us all a very special souvenir of the event by recording her set where she even gives her own brief take on Piknic, Montreal, and even the rain. This will be one event we won’t soon forget. Take a listen to Nicole Moudaber live from Piknic Electronik in Montreal, Canada below!!!
