Dekmantel Festival took place this past August for 5 days and nights with a diverse lineup that included the likes of Anthony Parasole, Dax J, Helena Hauff, Jeff Mills, Marcel Dettman, Matrixxman, Nina Kraviz, Ø[Phase], Rødhåd, and many other incredible DJs. 2017 marked the 10th birthday of the festival which took place in scattered locations in and around Amsterdam with the weekend events taking place in the Forest of Amsterdam, or Amsterdamse Bos. There were also some notable collaborations from Resident Advisor, Red Light Radio, and Boiler Room, with the latter hosting it’s own stage and 3 days of programming and with that 3 days of notorious Boiler Room broadcasts. They are afterall known for broadcasting the underground.
One of the DJs bringing their unique techno sound to the Boiler Room stage was Blawan. Also known by his birth name of Jamie Roberts, Blawan is an English DJ and producer hailing from South Yorkshire. He is often associated with Radiohead for his remix of their track titled “Bloom” which appeared on their album TKOL RMX 1234567. We know Blawan more for his appearances at Awakenings and Amsterdam Dance Event but his calendar includes such diverse festivals as Glastonbury (Wales, United Kingdom), Free Your Mind (Netherlands), Lighthouse (Croatia), Sonar (Iceland), and of course Dekmantel Festival this past August. His set here was a high point in Boiler Room’s broadcast as Blawan played a dark and intense set from start to finish. His track selection was on point and the sounds increasingly more interesting as the set played on. He is a master in that industrial-techno sound and here he doesn’t disappoint.
