Sound 074 – Ida Engberg

Ida Engberg is considered techno royalty as spouse to one of the genre’s heaviest hitters, Adam Beyer. We could list his accomplishments as an artist, DJ, producer, and label boss of Drumcode Records, but this post is all about Ida.

Hailing from Sweden, where there is no shortage of techno music, Ida was able to create a career envious to most any DJ out there trying to make it in the business. She is an IMG_1855accomplished producer and has managed to create her own identity and sound that speaks to an international audience. Yes, her sound leans quite heavily toward techno music but she has an ear for deep house and drops it in her sets seamlessly. She knows how to set the mood of a room and then kicks it up notch by notch until everyone is at full throttle.

Ida is no stranger to playing either a club or festival as she has made many appearances across the globe at such venues as Paradiso, Panorama Bar, Ushuaia, Cavo Paradiso, Pacha, and still many more. That might look like a laundry list of random venues, but these are some of the best clubs in the world. When it came to first hearing Ida live we’ll admit Adam brought us here but we definitely stayed for Ida. We recognized her name IMG_1856from Drumcode and first heard her live at the now shuttered Verboten in Brooklyn, NY where she began a residency in 2014. She definitely lived up to the hype we had heard and were excited to hear her play.

We would hear her again at Awakenings in Amsterdam and then here in New York at Mysteryland, Awakenings, and most recently at the Cityfox Odyssey. The latter was her most recent appearance where she played alongside Åme, Dixon, Damian Lazarus, Hot Since 82, Sasha & John Digweed, Andhim, Artbat, Fideles, Mathame, and still many more amazing acts to celebrate the New Year. The event was a 27 hour marathon with 4 stages and extended sets from all the artists. With so many artists on the lineup, Ida was still a standout and kept the crowd going from 3AM until after 7AM going more than an hour after she was scheduled to stop. Lucky for us, she recorded her set and we can relive the experience time and time again. Yes, all 4 hours are available to stream online at either Ida’s soundcloud account or on the account for Cityfox. Ida still remains one of our favorite DJs and can be heard at many upcoming events including Junction 2 Festival, Off Sonar, Tomorrowland, and Awakenings Festival happening later this year. Can’t make it to any of her upcoming gigs, then take a listen to Ida Engberg live from Cityfox Odyssey at the link below!!
